BEKA Schréder has supplied the LED retrofit lighting solution at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Botswana.

This airport is located about 10 km north of the city of Gaborone and offers large capacity to handle regional and international traffic and has the largest passenger movement in the country. Various areas in the airport have been upgraded from HID to an LED lighting solution, with the purpose of saving on energy consumption.

Apron lighting & Parking Areas

The apron and parking area lighting has been upgraded to a high-quality LED lighting solution with the OMNISTAR-MAXI floodlight.

The South-African manufactured OMNISTAR range has been designed to provide an unrivalled combination of performance and flexibility for lighting areas where high lumen packages are needed while offering maximum savings in energy and maintenance costs with a short payback time. This modular luminaire can be installed on a high mast with a bracket of one, two or three luminaires to provide the lighting distribution and lumen package needed to meet the specifications of the area to be lit. With on-site photometric adjustment, the OMNISTAR guarantees the perfect lighting to ensure safety and comfort. It offers a real alternative to luminaires equipped with high-power traditional sources, with the added advantages of an LED solution: low energy consumption, improved visibility with white light, limited maintenance, low glare and longer life.

The workshop area is illuminated by the LEDFLOOD-MIDI luminaires. Research has shown that light plays a major role in employee well-being, satisfaction and retention in any workplace. Poor lighting, especially yellow or orange light from traditional discharge lamps can cause eyestrain, blurred vision and headaches. This can result in a significant cost to the business in the form of time of injuries, absenteeism and reduced productivity.

Well-illuminated, glare-free LED lighting can make employees more alert and improve concentration levels, which leads to happier, safer employees and fewer incidents.

The South-African designed and manufactured LEDFLOOD range is suitable for area lighting applications, ranging from car parks to large areas, whilst offering energy savings, low maintenance requirements and precise light control.

The flexibility of the LensoFlex® photometric engine allows for multiple light distributions to ensure that the specific requirements of each application are met. In addition, the option for varying the number of LEDs of the floodlight allows for a precise adaptation of the application to be lit, thereby ensuring optimal lighting levels and energy savings.

The marine grade, high-pressure die-cast aluminium housing makes the LEDFLOOD suitable for installation in harsh environments. Furthermore, this complete floodlight solution offers a fast return on investment.

The old internal HID streetlighting has been replaced with energy-efficient LEDLUME-MINI LED streetlights.

The LEDLUME range has been designed and manufactured in South Africa and offers optimised photometrical performance with a minimum total cost of ownership. It provides customers with the ideal tool to generate energy savings, improve lighting levels and reduce maintenance costs. The great variety of high-performance optics optimises the photometric distribution for each specific application to achieve minimum energy consumption.

The LEDLUME range offers flexible combinations of LED modules, a choice of currents and dimming options to further maximise energy savings and provide the most cost-effective solution.

The BEKARONDO LED downlight luminaire is installed in the corridors in the Arrivals section of the airport. This circular aluminium reflector LED downlight has been designed for decorative lighting applications in modern or hi-tech environments, including reception areas, boardrooms or when high light output is required.

BEKA Schréder locally develops and manufactures energy-efficient LED lighting products, designed and suitable for local conditions.

We are very proud to be associated with Botswana-based electrical contractor BPG Switchboards in providing a successful LED retrofit lighting solution for this project.
